Dental extractions

A tooth is extracted when there is no other option available with a good prognosis. The dentist chooses this option as a last resort.

At adolescence, the third molars commonly called wisdom teeth start to erupt. The age at which they actually come out varies from one person to another. Some people can naturally have one or many missing wisdom teeth. If there is enough space for eruption, these teeth do not need to be removed.

However, a lot of people lack space for them. In these cases, the wisdom teeth may not fully erupt and stay partially impacted in the bone and gum tissue. This makes it impossible to clean and increases the risk of forming dental caries or a gingival infection in the area. A tooth that stays impacted in the bone has a higher risk of forming a cyst or tumor. A thorough dental examination is essential to prevent complications related to these molars.

How can you prevent tooth loss?

To prevent tooth loss, practice good oral hygiene by brushing your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and flossing daily to remove plaque.

See your dentist regularly for checkups and professional cleanings, and avoid sugary or acidic foods that can damage enamel. Limit tobacco and alcohol consumption, which increase the risk of periodontal disease.

Finally, eat a balanced diet rich in calcium and vitamin D to strengthen dental health.
